A total of 45 couples participated in a local mass wedding dubbed “Kasalan ng Bayan” hosted by the local government of Tayabas City, Quezon.

TAYABAS CITY, Quezon – THE saying love knows no bounds was proven once again, as not even the still rampaging pandemic could stop a total of 45 couples from tying the knots during the “Kasalan ng Bayan” hosted by the local government of this city today (May 10).

The mass wedding, held at the Casa Comunidad de Tayabas, was presided by Mayor Ernida Reynoso, following health protocols such as social distancing and wearing of face masks.

The exchange of vows legitimizes the union of couples who have been living together for years and have children, the mayor said.

“Ang 45 na ikakasal ay hinati sa apat na araw upang masunod ang mga health protocols,” Reynoso added.

In her message to the newlyweds, Mayor Reynoso stressed marriage is a union of heart, mind and soul.

“Ito ay iginagawad at ipinagdiriwang bilang isang simbolo ng pagpapahayag sa lipunan ukol sa pag-iisang dibdib ng dalawang tao,” she explained.

The program was initiated by the Office of the City Registrar, headed by Maide Obdianela Jader.

Kasalang Bayan is priority program of the Tayabas LGU to legitimize the union of indigent unwed couples.

In order to avail of the Kasalang Bayan, couples must submit the documents asked by the office of the Civil Registrar and attend a seminar for free. (AG)
