The local government of Tayabas City, Quezon has collaborated with researchers on an environmental study aimed at protecting the city’s river systems.

Sedney Mendoza, a researcher from the University of the Philippines – Diliman’s Institute of Biology, recently met with Mayor Piwa Lim, City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) head Melvin Rada, Senior Environmental Management Specialist Roan Pabilonia, and Councilor Jerry Talaga.

The meeting focused on Mendoza’s project, which seeks to assess the biological diversity and water quality of rivers in Tayabas.

The study aims to craft science-based policies that will ensure environmental protection and sustainable resource management for the city’s river system.

The Tayabas City CENRO is working in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology National Research Council of the Philippines to carry out the study, particularly in examining the city’s natural resources.

Mayor Lim expressed full support for the research project, underscoring the importance of evidence-based policies in preserving the environment while balancing development needs.
