Police authorities apprehended a driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) who was found to be in possession of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, after his vehicle collided with the parking boom barrier at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 Wednesday, November 29.

Reports said that the suspect, identified as Norberto Espino, 52, allegedly attempted to park in a VIP parking lot despite not having authorization.

The specific parking area is strictly designated for authorized vehicles and managed by the airport.

According to the PNP Aviation Security Unit (AVSEU) Police Substation 3, the guard tried to stop the suspect who was driving a dark gray Montero Sport with license plate OBE-206, but he sped off and lost control, colliding with the entrance boom gate. The guard on duty immediately called for backup.

Aviation police responded to the scene and apprehended Espino, who was allegedly in possession of illegal drugs.

The police recovered three plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, weighing five grams, with a street value of P34,000.

They also found large aluminum foils that the suspect had just finished using, as well as drug paraphernalia.

The suspect is currently under the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group pending the filing of charges for illicit drugs and driving without a valid license.
