Roadway to benefit 50,000 motorists, officials said

Motorists now have a faster and safer access to the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales with the opening of two additional lanes at the 8.2-kilometer Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEX).

This after several high-ranking government officials led in the in the ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the new SFEX to mark the opening of the two new lanes.

Among those who graced the event were Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, and Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

Also with them were Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administrator Wilma Eisma, Metro Pacific Investment Corporation (MPIC) President Jose Ma. Lim, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) President Rodrigo Franco, and NLEX Corp President Luigi Bautista led the ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the new SFEX last February 19.

The project, which entails the addition of two more lanes, two new bridges and a tunnel, will benefit more than 50,000 motorists, according to Villar.

“‘Pag two lanes lang hindi ka rin puwede mag-overtake. Very limited and syempre malaki and cause ng traffic,” Villar told media at the launch.

The additional lanes at the SFEX will also be a catalyst to the continued growth of Subic Bay Freeport Zone as a premier investment and tourism center, SBMA chairman Eisma added.

The SFEX, also known as the Subic-Tipo Expressway or NLEX Segment 7, connects the Subic Bay Freeport to the 94-kilometer Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx), which in turn links with the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway. (ONT)
