The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and other government agencies have taken measures to enhance drone regulations in order to encourage responsible drone use, as unmanned vehicles continue to pose a threat to aviation in the Philippines.
The country's aviation regulator convened an inter-agency meeting with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Philippine National Police - Aviation Security Group, and the Office of the President's Anti-Terrorism Council about drone regulations.
Discussions centered around strengthening the enforcement of current drone regulations, simplifying administrative procedures for drone users, and improving coordination between different government agencies.
A key topic of discussion was the establishment of designated drone parks or zones, providing a safe and legally sanctioned environment for both recreational and professional drone operations.
CAAP said to ensure compliance with regulations, it also aims to introduce an accessible online registration system and a comprehensive safety program.
CAAP Director General Manuel Antonio Tamayo underscored the critical role of public safety and national security as drone technology continues to evolve.
"By collaborating with various government agencies, we aim to create a more structured and efficient regulatory framework that promotes responsible drone usage," Tamayo said.
Government agencies convened a meeting to address Senator Raffy Tulfo's concern regarding the potential hazards posed by drones during the Senate Committee on Public Services at the Senate last February 11.
