SRA Administrator resigned from his post following the aborted sugar import plan.

Beleaguered Administrator Hermenegildo Serafica of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), has resigned in light of the controversial Sugar Order No. 4 (authorizing the importation of 300,000 metric tons), which was not approved by the President and Agriculture Secretary Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Said order is now being investigated on all fronts-- the House of Representatives, Senate and the Palace.

Radio DzBB said the resignation had previously been accepted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., citing a message from Serafica himself.

Marcos accepted the resignation "effective immediately," according to an August 15, 2022 letter from Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez to Serafica, a copy of which Rodriguez sent to GMA News.

Engr. Hermenegildo Serafica resigned as Administrator of SRA which the Office of the President has accepted.

Three key personalities have already been forced to resign by the controversial order-- first was DA Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian, Atty. Roland Beltran, a member of the SRA board representing the millers and now Serafica.

The order cited the rising cost of sugar in the market and the short supply for industrial users (namely food and beverage manufacturers) as the reason for allowing such importation.

Press Secretary Rose Beatrix Cruz-Angeles said the order was illegal since the president, who is concurrent DA Secretary and chairs the board, did not call the meeting that approved the said order.
