The Jose P. Rizal Memorial District Hospital in Calamba City, Laguna will soon be able to expand its services to Lagunenses.

This, after the provincial government led the groundbreaking ceremony for a five-storey extension building for the LGU-run hospital last January 5.

Laguna Governor Sol Aragones led the groundbreaking ceremony along with OIC Provincial Health Officer Dr. Odilon Inoncillo, Provincial Engineer Engr. Gil Agarri, former Department of Health Undersecretary and Provincial Health Consultant Dr. Eric Tayag, Provincial Administrator Atty. Nathalie Velasquez, and J. P. Rizal District Hospital Chief Dr. Petersan Uy.

Local officials said the new extension building is expected to increase the hospital’s capacity from the current 100 to 150 patients to up to 300 patients.

According to the provincial government, the new extension building will house the emergency room on the ground floor, the in-patient rooms and wards on the second and third floors, and the dormitory facilities for health workers and patient watchers on the fourth floor, while the basement level will be used for hospital storage.

Aragones added that the new building underscores the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening Laguna’s healthcare system and ensuring equitable access to health services for all sectors of society, which is one of the key priorities of the administration in 2026.

The first floor, which will serve as the emergency room, is targeted for completion and use by April 2026, while construction of the remaining floors will continue.
