Since the pandemic, mass gatherings such as book fairs had been prevented from being held onsite.

WHO else misses going to book fairs to browse new book collections, hoard titles that are on sale, chance upon your favorite authors, and generally inhale the sweet aroma of new books?

Since the pandemic, mass gatherings such as book fairs had been prevented from being held onsite.

The Manila International Book Fair, the country’s biggest annual book fair, was held online instead.

Bookworms hoarded books online and had to wait for days before their parcels were delivered through a courier.

The same was true with last year’s Aklatan fair. This year’s will also be held online.

This all-Filipino online book fair is being made possible by the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP).

It will be held from June 19 to 21, and books will be sold at discounts of over 30 percent.

The list of publishers that will be participating in this year’s Aklatan Book Fair includes 19th Avenida Publishing, ABC Educational Development Center Children’s Books, Abiva Publishing, ABS-CBN Books, Adarna House Inc., Anvil Publishing, Ateneo de Manila University Press, Bookware Publishing Corp. (Duyan Books), Central Books Supply Inc., Christian Literature Crusade, Church Strengthening Ministry Inc., De La Salle University Publishing House, Feast Books (Shepherd’s Voice Publications), Far Eastern University Publications, Kasingkasing Press, Kawangis Komiks, Komiket Inc., Milflores Publishing, National Book Store Inc., New Day Publishers, OMF Literature Inc., Precious Pages Corp., Psicom Publishing Inc., REX Bookstore Inc., San Anselmo Publications, Savage Mind: Arts, Books & Cinema (Savage Mind Bookshop), St. Matthew’s Publishing/Kahel Press, Summit Media (Summit Publishing Co. Inc.), Tahanan Books care of MRAS Book Trading, University of Santo Tomas Publishing House, University of the Philippines Press, Vibal Group Inc., Wiseman’s Books Trading Inc., and Learning is Fun (WS Pacific Publications).

The Philippine publishing industry will not perish under the strains that the pandemic has brought if Filipinos will continue to support local authors and publishers through book fairs like this. (EFO)
