BHW Partylist Rep. Angelica Natasha Co urged the Department of Health and the local government units in the country to improve their efforts in coping with “dry season illnesses” as the country prepares to deal with the onset of El Nino.
In a statement, Co said “there is still time to get ready for the spate of dry season illnesses, which will be worsened by the El Niño drought. It is now up to the DoH to work closely with LGUs to put measures in place for these illnesses.”
The representative also pointed out to measures being implemented by the BHW Partylist to complement the government’s measures against illnesses like food poisoning, water contamination, flu, measles, asthma, chickenpox, sore eyes, heat exhaustion and stroke.
“To set the example on health prevention, this early, we at the Barangay Health and Wellness Party-list have recently been conducting preventive flu vaccination and free medical laboratory services para maging handa ang kanilang kalusugan sa mga seasonal illness,” Co said.
“Added protection for Barangay Health Workers is our program on personal accident insurance to improve their capacity to pay for expenses in case they encounter accidents wherever they may be. We are gradually rolling out the personal accident insurance program,” she added.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned earlier in January that the months of March to April could be one of the warmest, with temperature reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius in parts of the country.
