HOUSE Deputy Speaker and Sagip Party List Rep. Rodante Marcoleta today denounced some senators who he accused of using the continuing Pharmally probe just to gain political and media mileage.

According to Marcoleta, the said hearing has been going on for a long time and seems to have no direction, which has been repeatedly milked for the personal agenda of some senators.

The legislator said that if there is any evidence, the matter should already be referred to the National Prosecution Service (NPS) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) or to the Office of the Ombudsman for proper investigation.

"It is being exploited by some legislators for the simple reason of eliciting materials connected to Malacañang and the alledged corruption in the administration's pandemic response," Marcoleta said.

“Senators are not highly skilled for that nor are they constitutionally mandated to function as such. They should be concentrating their attention and deliverative energy instead on lawmaking, ”Marcoleta said.

Related to the laws that Marcoleta wants to review are the post-audit report system of the Commission on Audit (COA) that can help prevent corruption in government transactions.

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee was investigating the alleged over-pricing transactions entered into by the government with Pharmally regarding the purchase of medical supplies during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic last year.
