Catbalogan City, Samar – The City Agriculture Office proudly announced the commencement of drilling for a Solar-Powered Irrigation System in Barangay New Mahayag, a vital project requested by the Catbalogan City Government through the City Agriculture Office.

The initiative, spearheaded by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Provincial Office under Provincial Administrator Engr. Riza B. Gallarde, marks a significant step in enhancing the city's agricultural productivity and food security.

Following the drilling in New Mahayag, similar efforts are scheduled for Barangay San Vicente to implement the same project.

This solar-powered irrigation system is expected to serve approximately 20-25 hectares of farmland, potentially increasing agricultural production by 20% to 40%.

Irrigation plays a crucial role in agriculture, particularly in regions where access to consistent water sources is limited. By introducing solar-powered irrigation, Catbalogan City is not only modernizing its agricultural infrastructure but also promoting sustainable farming practices.

The use of renewable energy ensures that this system is environmentally friendly and cost-efficient, reducing farmers' reliance on traditional energy sources.

This project is part of the Catbalogan City LGU's broader Food Security Program, aiming to boost local food production, support farmers, and ensure a stable food supply for the community.

Increased productivity directly benefits farmers by improving their incomes while contributing to the city’s economic growth and resilience.

Mayor Dexter Uy and the City Government of Catbalogan remain committed to addressing the needs of the agricultural sector and empowering farmers with innovative solutions.

Projects like the solar-powered irrigation system exemplify how government initiatives can drive sustainable development, secure livelihoods, and foster a thriving agricultural community.

As work progresses, the farmers of Catbalogan City can look forward to more efficient irrigation, improved yields, and a brighter future for local agriculture.

This initiative highlights the transformative power of innovation and collaboration in achieving food security and economic stability.
