The northbound and southbound lanes of the SLEX elevated extension can accommodate 200,000 cars a day!

LOOKING forward to a smooth road experience when driving going to the south?

It is now possible with the completion of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) elevated extension.

The extension was formally inaugurated by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Tuesday, February 15, who said the project could help spur the country’s economic recovery.

“We welcome this infrastructure development at a time when our economy is slowly opening up and recovering from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic," he said during the unveiling of the project marker.

He also commended the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and its private partners including San Miguel Corporation (SMC)

The 19-kilometer toll road connects the Skyway in Sucat to SLEX in Susanna Heights in Muntinlupa-bypassing the Alabang viaduct.

A four-kilometer, two-lane southbound alignment part of the project was initially opened to the public in December which, according to SMC, improved direct access to Alabang.

“Since we soft-opened the southbound SLEX Extension last December 10, motorists in the south have seen a major improvement in the traffic situation. It has provided relief to thousands of motorists who go home every day to Muntinlupa, Las Pinas, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas,” said SMC president Ramon S. Ang.

He added that the new project can accommodate around 200,000 cars a day and reduce travel time between Muntinlupa and Balintawak, Quezon City from two hours to just 25-30 minutes.

The project started in 2019, was initially scheduled to complete a year after but was delayed due to mobility and quarantine restrictions brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
