FOLLOWING the formal signing of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday signed into law Republic Act 11982 which provides cash incentives to senior citizens aged 80 to 95 years old, the local government unit of Angono urged elderly constituents to register at the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) in anticipation of the P10,000 cash gift as provided under the new law.

Under RA 11982 (Expanded Centenarian Act), elderly Filipinos aged 80, 85, 90, and 95 will receive a P10,000 cash gift each from the government after Congress has ratified next year’s General Appropriations Act.

“What’s important now is for our grandparents to register at OSCA,” Angono Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon said in a statement moments after the President signed the law.

Senior citizens who would breach the 100-year-old mark – as provided under RA 11982, would still receive P100,000 even after getting the CVS gift coin coding with their 80th, 85th, 90th, and 95th birthdays.

Based on government data, there are 194,000 senior citizens. Of this number, 103,348 are aged 80 years old, 57,304 are aged 85, 24,751 are aged 90, 6,209 are aged 95, and 2,500 are centenarians.

Bernardo Magante, a food vendor at the Angono Lakeside Park, expressed elation over the Expanded Centenarian Law which made him eligible for a cash incentive that he intends to use for his small business. At 84, Magante is believed to be the oldest senior citizen in Angono. (Photo courtesy of Nel Andrade)
