Congress leaders are certain that the ₱5.268 trillion national budget for 2023 will be passed and signed into law before Christmas.

The proposed ₱5.268 trillion 2023 national budget would be approved and signed into law before Christmas.

Despite anticipated difficulties in the consolidation of General Appropriations Bill (GAB) versions from the House of Representatives and the Senate, Senate finance committee chair Sonny Angara is confident that it can be finished by the first week of December.

The bicameral conference committee started its deliberation on the 2023 national spending plan at the Manila Golf and Country Club in Makati City, Inquirer reported.

“Hopefully by next week pero usually mahirap din mag-predict eh, but hopefully next week baka matapos tayo,” Angara said.
“Usually ‘yong ratification is if not the same day of signing, sana next week or the following week magawa natin dahil sayang naman ‘yung momentum. Maagang nag-sumite ‘yong Office of the President, maagang nagsumite din ‘yong House of Representatives so sana tuloy-tuloy ito,” he added.

In line with this, President Marcos was reassured by Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez that the 2023 national budget will be finished and submitted for consideration earlier than anticipated.

“We have sufficient time; we will finally approve the budget before yearend. It is the most important tool in accomplishing the objectives of the President’s Agenda for Prosperity and his eight-point socio-economic development plan,” Romualdez said.
“With this budget, which is the first full-year spending measure proposed by the President, we hope to sustain or even accelerate our economic growth, which should benefit all of our people,” he continued.
