Sen. Raffy Tulfo urged to review the DPWH projects to avoid kickbacks while Sen. Pimentel queries the lump sum in the department’s budget.
Senator Raffy Tulfo said that it is time to scrutinize the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects to prevent kickbacks and other irregularities.
Tulfo explained that a lawmaker may propose a road project worth ₱25 billion when the real cost is only ₱10 billion, Inquirer reported.
“So, may kickback agad ng P15 billion,” Tulfo said.
“Siguro ‘yan, it’s about time na silipin itong project na ito. Legit ba ‘tong project na ‘to? Tama ba ‘yung mga materyales na ginagamit diyan? Tumutuguma ba doon sa amount na requested?” he added.
The DPWH would get a ₱718.4 billion allocation from the ₱5.268 trillion national budget for 2023.
Aquilino Pimentel III, the Senate Minority Leader, had previously questioned the ₱544 billion lump sum included in the agency's budget.
