A total of 15,000 police personnel will be deployed to secure peace and order during Duterte's final SONA.

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has laid out stricter security and health protocols for President Rodrigo Duterte’s sixth and final State of the Nation Address (SONA) tomorrow (July 26).

During a media interview, National Capital Region Police Office chief Police Major General Vicente Danao Jr. said the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will implement signal jamming in parts of Quezon City on Monday.

"Mayroon din po sa specific areas na hindi gagana po ang (signal) dahil mayroon tayong jammer,” he said.

Protesters will also be allowed in limited areas for security reasons, as well as to prevent the further spread of Covid-19.

"Hanggang St. Peter's (Chapels in Tandang Sora, Quezon City) lang po maximum nilang puntahan. Unang-una, para 'di makaabala sa traffic, at pangalawa, dahil may kinakaharap na pandemic para magkaiwasan sa sakit na puwedeng makuha," the NCRPO chief said.

Danao added that Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, the Quezon City Police District and rallyists already had a meeting for SONA arrangements.

As for pro-Duterte rallies, Danao said: "Mayroon din po nagpaalam na pero 'di pa tiyak kung saang area. I know that it will be the area na napagkasunduan."

Meanwhile, PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar has ordered the suspension of all permits to carry firearms outside of residence (PTCFOR) for seven days in Metro Manila from July 21 to 28.

“Only members of PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who are performing official duties and in agency-prescribed uniforms will be allowed to carry firearms,” a memorandum released by Eleazar’s office read.

Eleazar said this is to ensure that the SONA will be free from firearms-related incidents and protect the safety of the public.

A total of 15,000 police personnel will be deployed to secure peace and order during Duterte's final SONA.
