Catbalogan City — The province of Samar is celebrating a historic achievement as its local schools gain international recognition for their scientific research.
Samar National School (SNS) has secured a remarkable spot in the upcoming Science Castle Asia 2025, a prestigious regional science competition that highlights the talents of young researchers from across Asia.
Scheduled at Multimedia University (MMU) on October 18–19, Science Castle Asia 2025 aims to bring together innovative student scientists to showcase their projects and share ideas.
This event is a platform for talented youth to present their scientific studies, network with peers from neighboring countries, and gain valuable experience on an international stage.
Out of nearly 400 entries submitted from various parts of Asia, 30 research studies from Samar National School have been officially selected to participate.
This is a significant achievement, as 30 out of 32 entries from SNS made it into the competition.
Such a high selection rate is considered a milestone for a simple public school in Samar, underlining the exceptional quality of research produced by its students.
According to the organizers of Science Castle Asia, the entries from Samar exceeded expectations in terms of originality, scientific rigor, and creativity.
The selected studies cover diverse fields such as Material Science and Engineering, Innovative Food Technology, Eco-Friendly Materials, and Waste Management.
The organizers expressed their admiration for the dedication and talent of SNS students, noting that the quality of submissions was truly impressive.
An official statement from the event organizers read, “Congratulations to all the teams! We were overwhelmed by the high standard and enthusiasm displayed in over 400 applications from across Asia.”
This recognition shows the competitive nature of the event and affirms the potential of Filipino students in the realm of scientific research.
Minda C. Floretes, the award-winning Science Research Adviser of SNS, emphasized that this achievement goes beyond individual or school victory.
She noted that it reflects the perseverance, resilience, and passion of the students and teachers who continue to pursue excellence despite limited resources.
“From a humble public school—no advanced laboratories, no fancy equipment—just passion, hard work, and a strong will to succeed,” Floretes shared.
She added that SNS students are proving that innovation and scientific inquiry can flourish even in challenging environments.
While SNS has long participated in national and international competitions, this milestone marks a new high point for the school.
With nearly all entries being selected for such a competitive event, it signifies a turning point in the school’s history and its reputation for producing world-class researchers.
They aim to showcase not only their scientific skills but also practical solutions to global issues, demonstrating how science can contribute to a better world.
Science Castle Asia serves as a vital platform for young scientists passionate about making a difference through innovation and scientific discovery.
Alongside SNS, other schools from the region, including Eastern Visayas Regional Science High School and Calbiga National High School, are also participating, further showcasing the region’s growing strength in science and research.
This achievement brings pride to Samar and the entire Eastern Visayas region, emphasizing that Filipino students and educators are capable of competing and excelling at the highest levels of scientific inquiry and research.
It is a testament to the potential of the youth to help solve the world’s pressing problems through science and innovation.
