The provincial government of Quezon is contemplating a scaled-down version of the Niyogyugan Festival 2026 this coming August, in response to the present energy and resource constraints owing to the continuing Middle East conflict.
The Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) headed by Nesler Almagro in a presentation during the regular monthly meeting of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Quezon Chapter last Thursday (April 16) held at Culture and the Arts Center Kalilayan Hall, Provincial Capitol Compound showed key adjustments to the Niyogyugan Festival.
Among the changes, the duration of the celebration will be reduced from 12 to just seven days.
Quezon Governor Angelina “Doktora Helen” Tan has issued last March 3 an executive order “adopting fuel conservation measures for the provincial government of Quezon in response to global fuel supply disruption and price volatility due to the geopolitical tension in the Middle East” and to align with austerity and efficiency measures.
Among events that will be removed from this year’s lineup include the Grand Parade Competition, Niyogyugan Music Festival, Grand Tagayan Day, Ginoo at Binibining Niyogyugan, Cocolympics, Kalusugan sa Niyogyugan, Film Competition and Madulang Sabayang Pagbigkas.
In his presentation, Almagro told the LMP-Quezon Chapter officials and members led by its president Sonny Ubana that among the major features of the NF 2026 include the Agri-Tourism Booth Competition, Coco Summit; the Niyogyugan Festival Costume segment which will be transformed into a Dolls Costume Competition; hybrid format for the Balse ng Tagayan and Cocodance Fitness; MLQ Quiz Bee and Lecture Series, Tara na sa Quezon Business to Business Forum; Tara na sa Quezon Familiarization Tour to provide stakeholders with firsthand experience of the province’s destinations, Vlogging and Documentary Competitions; Sayaw sa Niyog Dance Showdown which requires limited participants to only 20 dancers, and large props and flipping boards will not be permitted.
The Niyogyugan Festival 2026 will kick off on August 13 and run up to August 20.
Almagro’s delegation to the LMP-Quezon Chapter event included provincial government’s Chief of Staff Rose Anne Verzo, Executive Assistant Atty. Mervin Manalo, Provincial. Treasurer Rosario Marilou Uy, Prov’l. Accountant Mary Grace Gordula and Prov’l. Budget Officer Diego Salas.
Calabarzon police chief Brig. Gen. Hansel Marantan graced the occasion and spoke briefly about his major institutional programs for safeguarding the region’s peace and order.
Quezon Vice Governor Third Alcala attended the event flanking Ubana at the presidential table along with his fellow officers of the LMP-Quezon which included his vice president Infanta Mayor Lord Arnel Ruanto, Candelaria mayor George Suayan, treasurer; and Guinayangan mayor Cesar Isaac III, secretary general.
