In Silay City, Negros Occidental, SC Food Riders Silay has become an indispensable part of daily life, proving that local delivery systems are not just convenient but essential. This innovative service, owned by the enterprising Melrose Saludo-Canson, emerged during the pandemic and has since flourished, becoming a lifeline for many.
The story of SC Food Riders began when Melrose received a Foodpanda voucher from her mother’s friend in Manila to promote the food delivery app. Simultaneously, another friend from San Carlos City, struggling to make ends meet after losing his job, started a local delivery service. Inspired by these events, Melrose launched SC Food Riders in Silay City to deliver food, groceries, and other essential items, expanding their reach and services as demand grew.
When I visited Silay with my media colleagues Leony, Armi, Rodel, Marge, Pride of Panay, and Ariel, we had the chance to meet and interview the SC Food Riders Silay team. To date, SC Food Riders Silay has 31 active riders.
"Nagapasalamat gid kami kay may amo ni kami nga obra, mainit man mag deliver pero fulfilling gid," one rider shared, reflecting their gratitude despite the challenges of the job. They proudly informed us that they earn around 700 pesos daily, fulfilling orders for at least 20 customers daily.
Of course, the life of a delivery rider isn't without its hiccups. One rider recounted a frustrating experience where a customer paid for their food order three days late due to a delayed money transfer from abroad. Despite these occasional setbacks, SC Food Riders' Silay commitment to service remains unwavering. They accept various payment methods, including cash, money remittance, GCash, PayMaya, and bank transfers, ensuring maximum convenience for their customers.
So, the next time you're in Silay City, take a break from exploring its heritage houses and rich culture and let SC Food Riders Silay take care of your needs.
