Avoid unnecessary panic by choosing not to spread misinformation on social media.
That was the advice of Santa Rosa City, Laguna Mayor Arlene Arcillas following two separate incidents of security threats affecting its schools.
During the regular flag-raising ceremony last July 6, Arcillas warned Santa Roseños against spreading unconfirmed information regarding security threats.
"Please refrain from indiscriminate posting...na nakakapag-cause ng panic," the city executive said.
Arcillas made the warning after at least two public schools in Santa Rosa City were forced to suspend face-to-face classes that day.
Officials of Leon C. Arcillas National High School and Labas Senior High School announced on their social media pages that they will implement alternative learning modalities after receiving unspecified "security threats."
These threats came amid a spate of bomb threats received by other schools in Calabarzon and other areas in the Philippines, as well as heightened security measures implemented after the recent shooting incident at a school in Tacloban City.
Arcillas advised those who received such messages to immediately report them to the proper authorities, instead of spreading them on social media.
The city executive also assured parents and students that authorities are addressing such reports of security threats and are working to ensure the security of students.
