The "Lion City" of Laguna and the "Paris of Negros" are now officially sister cities.

Santa Rosa City, Laguna Mayor Arlene Arcillas inked a memorandum of agreement with Silay City, Negros Occidental Mayor Joedith Gallego last February 26, affirming the official partnership between the two LGUs.

Gallego led the delegation from Silay City on their visit to Santa Rosa City for the signing of the sisterhood agreement.

This pact aims to strengthen the economic, gubernatorial and cultural links between Santa Rosa City and Silay City, in the hopes that this partnership will be of mutual benefit to their constituents.

"In the same way I regard Santa Rosa as family, welcoming Silay City as our latest 'sister' or extension of our family promises fresh and enriching encounters that can greatly benefit our cities," Arcillas said.

Meanwhile, Gallego pledged to establish a "relationship anchored on human growth and development, commitment and dedication" between the two LGUs.

Silay City, located north of Bacolod City and the site of the Bacolod-Silay International Airport, is known as the "Paris of Negros" due to its artists, cultural shows and large collection of preserved heritage houses dating back from the Spanish occupation.
