This September, the city government of San Pedro, Laguna took the time to pay its respects to the hardworking employees who keep the wheels of local governance running smoothly.
As the nation celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service, the local government of San Pedro has rolled out a lineup of activities to honor and treat the rank-and-file LGU employees this month.
With the theme “Bawat Kawani, Lingkod Bayani, Puso, Dangal, at Galing Para Sa Bayan,” this year’s activities of the San Pedro City LGU aims not only to “pay it forward” to the members of the local civil service but also to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to enhance their service to the people, according to Leah Lu-Morando, head of the San Pedro City Human Resources Office.
On September 8, Mayor Art Mercado hosted the “Salamat – Mabuhay Awarding Ceremony” for employees who have reached their mandatory retirement age, as a way of expressing gratitude for their years of service to the local government.
“Ito po ay regular na nating activity every Monday flag-raising ceremony para sa mga empleyado nating umabot na sa mandatory retirement age na 65. Meron po silang natatanggap na plaque of recognition at saka monetary reward po,” Lu-Morando explained.
On that same day and on September 24, the city government treated its employees with a “Leisure Day,” where they received free health services courtesy of the San Pedro City Health Office as well as free massages and haircuts.
“Tapos po meron din pong itinayong booth ang Alaska Milk Corporation, kung saan namigay po sila ng freebies para po sa ating mga employees,” the local HR head added.
From September 22 to 26, the San Pedro City Hall hosted the City Departments’ Trade Fair, where employees were given the chance to hone their entrepreneurial skills.
According to Lu-Morando, the city government also hosted a series of seminars for local government employees, covering a wide variety of topics such as effective communication in the workplace and basic customer service.
“Ang dami naman pong positive feedback po doon sa seminar. Kasi more on, paano nila gagawin yung service nila? Paano sila makikipag-deal with their clients, with their office mates? So, yun po ay binibigay po namin sa kanila ng funded po yun ng ating city government,” she recounted.
This year’s lineup of events will culminate with the Loyalty Awarding Ceremony scheduled on October 6, where the LGU will honor employees who have not only excelled in their careers but also given honor to the city government through their achievements.
