Last December, San Pedro City Mayor Art Mercado made a pledge: a Christmas gift in the form of cash incentives to the city’s senior citizens.

Last week, from January 10 to 11, the city government made good that pledge as it began the rollout of cash incentives for senior citizens.

Over 3,700 senior citizens were able to receive the incentives during the two-day payout activities held at the United San Pedro Subdivision covered court in Barangay San Antonio.

"Ito po ang kauna-unahang pagkakataon na nagbigay po ang city government ng cash incentives sa lahat ng senior citizens," Mercado, who also personally visited the activity, said during the event.

According to the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) of San Pedro City, all senior citizens of San Pedro City who are registered with the OSCA were eligible to receive the cash incentives whether or not they are members of a senior citizens’ organization and federation.

Aside from verification stations for senior citizens that enabled them to verify their status on the OSCA list, the office also provided an opportunity for other seniors who were not registered with the OSCA to have themselves registered in order to enjoy the benefits and programs of the city government.

The city government asserted that this is one way of ensuring that every San Pedrense will benefit from the LGU’s programs.

"Ito po ang pangako ko sa ating mga kababayan: basta taga-San Pedro ka, anuman ang kulay ng inyong pulitika, tutulungan po natin," Mercado also assured.
