Closer health care services.
The residents of San Miguel town in Leyte province now have access to healthcare services within their community, as the first hospital in the area has finally opened its doors.
After two years of construction, the 15-bed San Miguel Municipal Hospital is ready to provide medical care to the town's 21 villages.
The hospital's opening is a result of the shared vision of local officials to provide proper healthcare services to the community.
The hospital employed two doctors, six nurses, six midwives, and 10 other personnel, and is classified as an infirmary by the Department of Health.
Initially, the hospital will utilize the existing facilities of the municipal health unit until additional equipment is procured.
The hospital's construction started in March 2022 with an initial funding of P5 million from the local government's development fund.
An additional P7 million was later allocated in March 2023, and another P8 million in March 2024.
On top of that, sources said that the hospital will receive initial medical assistance worth P10 million from the office of House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Leyte's first district representative.
The new hospital will save patients and their family’s money and time by providing urgent medical attention within their reach.
The facility offers a range of services including hospital confinement services, outpatient services, pharmacy services, laboratory services, and more.
The hospital is the first in San Miguel town and the second in Leyte's first district outside Tacloban City and Palo town.
Prior to the completion of the municipal hospital, San Miguel residents had to travel long distances to access healthcare services in nearby towns such as Palo or Tacloban.
