CATBALOGAN, Samar -- A recent cryptic social media post by Atty. Alma Uy Lampasa who earned her title as Samar’s Iron Lady, has ignited speculation regarding her expected candidacy for public office in the upcoming May 15, 2025, local and national elections.

In her post, Atty. Lampasa expressed a poignant sentiment.

“The feeling of waiting for the one you loved only to find out that he will not come because he is in Belgium" (Iton feeling han naghihinulat ka han imo hinigugma, only to find out nga diri ngayan maabot, kay aadto na ha Belgium. Hahaha! Soooo sad....It life gudman, uy! )

Political analysts and local observers viewed this message as a sign that she may have been waiting for support from a key figure, whose absence might have shaped her decisions about running for office.

Speculation was rife that Atty. Lampasa had been eyeing either the mayoralty of Catbalogan or the governorship of Samar, given her previous experience as a provincial board member for the 2nd legislative district of Samar and as a City Councilor of Catbalogan.

Sources suggest that her cryptic message may reflect her hope for an endorsement or collaboration with the unnamed individual in Belgium, which could have played a significant role in her political strategy.

As a result, she did not file her COC.

Atty. Lampasa was known for her dedication to public service and legal expertise, having served as both a law professor and a judge.

She is often referred to as the "Iron Lady of Samar," likely earned this title due to her strong, firm, resilient and decisive leadership style, especially in the field of public service or politics.

Atty. Lampasa has been involved in several high-profile cases, most notably as the private prosecutor in the murder case of Calbayog City Mayor Ronaldo Aquino.

Mayor Aquino was killed in an ambush in March 2021, along with three others.

Her candidacy was expected to draw considerable attention, given her established reputation and the political landscape in Samar.

However, like the lawyer, many Samarnons were left disappointed by the hope for change or as they say, “someone who will actually protect the people.”
