The Kalawakan Art Gallery at the corner of Roces Avenue and Quezon Avenue was teeming with not only grownups but kids as well ogling at the art works displayed in the main gallery and a chamber adjacent to the bigger hall.
It was a joint exhibit among established and emerging visual artists and kid artisans.
While the primary room was tacked with paintings on the wall by adult artists, the elbow room for the children’s show was occupied by the “Salinggits,” in reference to “sali” (join) and colloquial word “bulinggit” (small), mostly a fusion of tag-along participants but not exactly uninvited because these kids were recognized as talented, either scions of artists or scouted at-large from bunches of young doodlers, sketchers and painters, independently curated.
Three of the participating kid artists were Ali (12), Yno (9) and Kai (7) Labora, sons of Sibale, Romblon seasoned visual artist, teacher, filmmaker, writer and polymath Bon Labora.
Ali, Yno and Kai said they were not taught by their dad the art of painting but it came out naturally from them.
Xose Luna Dalena, son of artist and filmmaker Kiri Dalena also made impactful and impressive contributions to the art show.
Child’s arts were manifested in all the young participants.
