The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is gearing up to tackle the alarming surge in road crash deaths with the unveiling of a comprehensive Metro Manila Road Safety Action Plan (MMRSAP) for the years 2024-2028.

Data sourced from the Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System (MMARAS) paints a grim picture, revealing an average of 410 road crash fatalities annually over recent decades.

Drivers top the list, accounting for 51 percent of the casualties, followed by pedestrians at 36 percent and passengers at 13 percent.

In response to these concerning statistics, the MMDA has joined forces with the Department of Transportation, World Health Organization Philippines, and The Policy Center to formulate the MMRSAP 2024-2028.

This strategic blueprint sets ambitious targets, aiming to slash road crash fatalities by 35 percent by the year 2028.

Moreover, it synchronizes efforts with the Philippine Road Safety Month and dovetails with the 5-Year Action Plan of the Comprehensive Traffic Management Plan for Metro Manila, supported by funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
