The Ayala tunnel in EDSA was the scene of another road rage killing last May 28, a grim reminder of how risky it is to drive in the chaotic streets of Metro Manila.

For family driver Aniceto Mateo, the end came when he was hit from behind — in the right shoulder and the head from behind by a bullet fire from a handgun, allegedly by Gerard Uy, the driver of a black Mercedes Benz which earlier engaged a white Toyota Innova in a “gitgitan” in Bonifacio Global City (BGC).

Witnesses said Mateo, 65, was shot to death along the southbound lane of the Edsa Ayala tunnel in Makati last May 28 around 2:30 p.m.

The suspect was aboard a black Mercedes Benz with a plate number BCS77.

Authorities disclosed that Mateo was with passengers Marites Valmorio, 47, and a minor when the shooting occurred.

They were on board a white Toyota Innova and were on their way to Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Businessman-suspect

The businessman accused of killing a family driver during a road rage incident along the EDSA-Ayala tunnel in Makati has been charged with murder before the city prosecutor’s office.

Gerrard Raymund Yu underwent inquest proceedings in the presence of his lawyer and police investigators, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

Yu earlier waived his right to a preliminary investigation and appealed to the media and the public not to judge him.

“I am appealing to the media. I am a good person, I am not bad. I’m asking the public, please don’t judge me,” Yu said .

Yu allegedly shot dead the 65-year-old driver of a Toyota Innova, who was with a 47-year-old housemaid and a seven-year-old Filipino-Japanese boy at the time of the shooting.

On Wednesday, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. announced the suspect’s arrest while presenting him before the media.

Abalos revealed that the black Mercedes Benz was registered to a certain individual living in Las Piñas but could no longer be found there.

A follow-up operation eventually led to the suspect’s location along Riverside Village, Pasig City.

Based on police records, a black Mercedes Benz with plate number DAD98670 was also found in the residence, and plate number BCS77 was discovered inside the vehicle.

Yu also underwent a paraffin test, while the two pistols also found in his home were subjected to ballistic examination.

Results showed that Yu tested positive for gunpowder from the confiscated firearms, which Abalos said matched with the recovered fired cartridge at the scene.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is eyeing to file two more cases against the suspect in the road rage in Makati City.

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said aside from murder, Gerrard Raymund Yu may be guilty of violation of Republic Act 4136 for using illegal license plates or switching vehicle plates, and violation of RA 10591 Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
