MRT-3 and LRT-2 commuters can avail themselves of free rides this December 30, Thursday.
DECEMBER 30 marks the 125th death anniversary of the Philippines’ national hero.
Many agencies, transport authorities, and even the Philippine Embassy in Japan have celebrations underway.
Among the celebrations is the unveiling of the 12.5 feet tall 3D-printed statue of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) complex in Bicutan, Taguig.
“The design is inspired by studies and works of scientists, historians, and artists of the DOST-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP), depicting the national hero as a medical scientist, an engineer/surveyor, an agriculturist, and a naturalist-environmentalist.”
Next are the four new stamps depicting the national icon’s life, works, and heroism by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost). Only 40,000 copies will be printed to be sold at ₱12 each.
“The stamps feature Rizal’s inherent love and compassion for the Filipino people and the country," said the PHLPost. "He is also admired for possessing intellectual brilliance being a doctor, scientist, and linguist."
As for the Philippine Embassy in Japan, they recently unveiled a special edition of the first manga about the national hero, autographed by the author Mr. Takahiro Matsui and artist, Mr. Ryo Konno.
The manga was first released online in 2018, before being published in Filipino, English, and Nihonggo.
Finally, the Light Rail Transit Authority is offering free LRT- 2 rides on December 30, from 7 am to 9 am while the Metro Rail Transit is giving passengers free MRT-3 rides from 7 am to 9 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm.
