For the first time in her fourteen years in the acting field, actress Rita Daniela has won a trophy.
This, after she clinched the Best Actress Award at the 7th Sinag Maynila Film Festival held Sunday, September 28 at the Gateway Cinema 11 in Cubao, Quezon City.
Rita was recognized for her outstanding performance "with realism" in the Joel Lamangan-directed film "Madawag ang Landas Patungong Pag-asa."
In this movie, she played the role of a teacher in a remote barrio who brought hope and new directions in a reemerging community from ravages of armed conflict,
In her acceptance speech, Daniela was teary-eyed when she dedicated her award to her son Uno and expressed her gratitude to the people who helped hone her showbiz career.
"I would like to thank my director Joel Lamangan who has been my mentor in my acting career for fourteen years," said Rita.
She added that her award is a gift in the celebration of her recent thirtieth birthday.
The evening was her total conquest of good things the world could offer.
When her name was called as Best Actress, Daniela walked down the theater gingerly, regally and victoriously to accept her trophy from father and daughter presenters, actor Allen and newbie Felixia Dizon.
Rita’s international award was a Best Actress plum from the 2012 International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) for the film “In the Name of the Mother.”
Meanwhile, JM de Guzman bagged the Best Actor Award for "Selda Tres."
Uniquely, there were no winners in the Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor categories.
Top awards Best Director and Best Film went to Topel Lee for "Jeongbu" and "Madawag ang Landas Patungong Pag-asa" from New Rise Productions, respectively.
