A woman in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija does the "old-fashioned" way of removing black bugs and other pests from milled rice by shaking it with a bamboo winnower.

Black bugs, known locally as "alitangya," are now causing havoc not only on agriculture - Nueva Ecija's main economic sector - but are also proving to be detrimental to people's health and safety in the province.
