Rep. Angelica Natasha Co, urged Filipinos abroad to show their support for Filipino artists who are competing and trying to break through the international scene.

Rep. Angelica Natasha Co, BHW Partylist, urged Filipinos to support the talents of their kababayans competing abroad against foreign counterparts.

She cited the success of international acts like SB19, who are currently on a world tour that allowed them to perform for fans all over the world from Dubai, United States and other Southeast Asian countries, to promote their latest single ‘WYAT (Where You At).’

When it comes to acting, the Philippines has also produced top caliber films and shows following the premier of ‘Cattleya Killer’ at the Cannes at this year's Mipcom (Marché International des Programmes de Communication) Cannes or the International Market of Communications Programs, attended by protagonist Congressman Arjo Atayde, vice chair of the special committee on the creative industry and performing arts.

The Manila Bulletin said Mipcom Cannes, usually held for four days in October, is considered the largest content market in the world and the film’s debut at Cannes officially marks the first time a Filipino series will be showcased to industry decision-makers in hopes of securing a global distribution partner.

Other Filipino personalities recognized internationally for their works are John Arcilla, winning best actor at the 78th Venice International Film Festival for his portrayal in the film ‘On the Job: The Missing 8,’ Direk Brilliante Mendoza, the first Filipino director to be honored by France with the title Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres for his films Kanatay (2009) and Taklub (2015), and Jaclyn Jose, who won at Cannes Film Festival in 2016 for the film ‘Ma’ Rosa.’

Co asked Filipinos everywhere for their continuous support for fellow Filipinos who are braving the hard path to success as they go head to head with equally great and talented foreign artists.

“So I ask all Filipinos everywhere to be positive, innovative, and supportive of all Pinoy creatives who bravely compete overseas and prove what they can do to foreign audiences,” she said in writing.
