Authorities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 nabbed a rape suspect who was trying to travel abroad.

The 32-year-old male suspect, who was not identified, was a departing passenger on a flight bound for Osaka.

In a July 1 report from Philippine National Police - Aviation Security Group (Avsegroup), the suspect was stopped at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) due to an outstanding warrant for arrest for rape under Republic Act No. 8353, with Criminal Case No. 5891-B-2024, which is non-bailable.

The warrant was issued by the Regional Trial Court of Biñan City, Laguna on January 23, 2024.

PNP - Avsegroup chief BGen Christopher Abrahano said that the arresting officers used an Alternative Recording Device (ARD) "in accordance with the law."

The suspect, he said, was informed of the nature of the offense charged and was apprised of his constitutional rights.

The passenger was immediately transferred to Camp Crame awaiting legal proceedings, police said.

"The PNP - Avsegroup remains at the forefront of ensuring the integrity of aviation security across all airports in the country. We are dedicated to ensuring that lawbreakers cannot evade justice," said Abrahano.
