LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Coast Guard personnel in Southern Quezon Station (CGSQS) went through a 5-day capacitation training on environmental law enforcement in Brgy. Dalahican, Lucena City from March 2 to 6.
Twenty-one CGSQS personnel participated in the training process on intelligence gathering and mapping, formulation of strategies based from gathered informations, tactical operation such as proper boarding on seacrafts and proper ways in effecting arrest on violators; actual fish examination to determine if caught fish is through dynamite or poison as legal evidence; preparation of documents for filing of cases in court and to act as witness to ensure they prosper in litigation.
Glenn Forbes, president of Tanggol Kalikasan, tackled topics and practical exercises on search methodologies, pre-crime scene investigation for aquatic pollutions, legal forms and affidavits and case build-up.
Forbes said that the training manifests their support to the PCG in its effort to assist in curbing illegal fishing in Tayabas and Lamon Bay.
“We hope that the training reignites the conservation of Tayabas Bay and paves the way for its protection as we demonstrate the power of partnership and collaboration during the training by bringing the IBP, the BFAR, TNIQue, and the municipal fishery officers and Bantay Dagat of Lucena, Pagbilao and Agdangan to assist and extend support for the participants,” Forbes said.
He added that that the TK values partnership and building capacities to address the most pressing issues in fisheries management.
The event is part of the mandate of the PCG in the protection of marine resources and ensuring compliance of laws for those benefiting the seas and coastal areas in Southern Quezon and Southern Tagalog region, particularly in Tayabas Bay and Lamon Bay.
