Quezon employees coop turns 56

TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - The Quezon Province employees cooperative is feeling celebratory as it marked its 56th year on March 27, as it boasted a total current assets of P67,080,993.

The Quezon Provincial Government Officials and Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (QPGOEMPC), with a total membership of 1,011 from various provincial government offices in the provincial capitol in Lucena city, held its general assembly at St. Jude Hotel and Event Center in Barangay Isabang.


Led by its chairman of the board of directors, Sedfrey Potestades, assistant department head at the Office of the Provincial Gender and Development, he commended everyone for keeping up with the forward thrusts of the cooperative programs and projects designed to benefit all the members.


In his message, he said that this “gathering is a celebration of our shared journey, achievements, and collective commitment to strengthen our cooperative.”


Quezon Governor Angelina "Doktora Helen" Tan, in her commemorative message, described the event as a "milestone" for the coop members.


“[It is] a testament to your enduring commitment to the cooperative’s values”, adding that reaching its 56th year of service “reflects not only longevity but also the strength of unity and shared purpose that guide the cooperative through the decades,” she added.



Loan portfolio


In its report to the members, the cooperative has released from January to December 2025 a total of P46,346,000 in various loan categories such as regular loans amounting to P8,550,000; multipurpose loans, P2,380,000; special loans, P1,140,000 and petty cash loans P731,000.


The 13th month loans reached P4,285,000, complemented by 14th month loans at P4,940,000, while the newest loan category called GFAL Recovery Loan contributed P4,230,000. The largest share showed from Express ATM Loans which recorded P20,090,000.


The coop’s credit committee chaired by John Maranan has affirmed that the loan portfolio in fiscal year 2025 “remained stable, marked by sustained borrower growth, consistent loan releases, and continued reliance on seasonal and Express (ATM) loans.


It recommends to expand to livelihood and entrepreneurial loan programs, to strengthen repayment monitoring, especially for Express (ATM) loans; to enhance financial literacy initiatives to sustain borrower discipline, and introduce digital loan monitoring tools for transparency and efficiency.


For its social services, the coop has extended a total of P140,434 last year to 4 deceased members; and mutual aid benefits amounting to P144,230 to 8 members.


The coop conducts community services such as annual gift giving to vulnerable sectors and educational assistance, and undertakes seminars and trainings on pre-membership and ownership seminars, coop general orientation and livelihood program. It also earns from rentals of mini stalls and mini-function halls for trainings and seminars.



Future plans


The general assembly also approved its annual development plan for 2026 which included the establishment of a payment center or kiosk for the convenience of members; the establishment of a pharmacy, water refilling station and laundry; a tie-up for memorial services and a plan to put up a convenience store or franchise with Alfamart or 7Eleven.


The coop has signed a memorandum of agreement with Pagbilao municipal government enlisting its employees to be regular and associate members as part of the coop’s expansion program for membership among local government units.


During the general assembly, elections were held for several positions in the board of directors, audit committee and election committees.


Elected were Rowena Dapula, Dennis Cadelina and Cedita Uy for BOD; Zarah Mae Sugay and Liliane Reyes for audit committee; and Marianne Naynes, Jayson Abrigo and Melanie Obnamia for the Election committee.


Members who have stayed for decades with the coop were given loyalty awards along with token cash reward led by Bernardita Abaca for having been 50 years in the coop which this year’s gathering has for its theme: “Strength in unity, moving forward together.”
