PSC Chairman Noli Eala assured the PH national boxing team of the sports governing body’s support for funds and trainings for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), headed by chairman Noli Eala, pledged its support for the national boxers all the way to the 2024 Paris Olympics during a courtesy call November 14 at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

The courtesy call was attended by Asian Elite Boxing Championship gold medalist Carlo Paalam and bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio and Hergie Bacyadan, together with Ed Picson, president of Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP), and secretary general Marcus Jarwin Manalo, the Philippine Information Agency reported.

“We are in full support of our national boxers all the way to Paris Olympics. We’ve already discussed the plans with ABAP President Ed Picson, as to how we can level up the support and programs for our elite athletes,” said Eala in a statement.

Eala also shared that the PSC will be funding the team's training and foreign trips next year.

“We will look into the possibility of building a team composed of coaches and sports science experts, just like what the PSC created for Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz and Olympian pole vaulter EJ Obiena,” added Eala as quoted by BusinessMirror.

After the national team’s stint in Amman Jordan for the Asian Elite Boxing Championship, they are set to take an early holiday break and will only return for their training camp which will start on December 4, according to Picson.

"Our boxers have a nice facility in Baguio, which we thank the PSC for. We are making that sacrifice now, in the lead up to tournaments happening as early as February next year, prior to the Cambodia SEA Games, and eventually to Paris," added Picson.

Eala ended the courtesy call by encouraging Paalam, Petecio and Bacyadan to keep on aiming for the Olympic Gold and to work hard for it.

“Kahit na nandon na kayo sa taas ng tagumpay, ‘wag kayong bibitaw. Ganun pa rin ang level ng gutom and motivation na manalo. Ang panalo nyo, ay panalo ng buong bayan,” said Eala.
