The city government of San Pedro, Laguna has kicked off its flagship scholarship project for deserving students.
From January 12 to 16, the city government started processing applications for students of the city who wish to be included in the San Pedro City Scholarship Program (SPECS) at the Robinsons Galleria South Mall.
The SPECS is San Pedro City’s flagship scholarship program, which aims to provide deserving students with financial assistance so that they can continue with their studies.
Applicants from Batch 2021 to 2024 were required to submit the following documents:
- Certified True Copy of Grades (Latest or 2nd Semester of A.Y. 2024-2025)
- Photocopy of Registration Form (Latest or 1st Semester of A.Y. 2025-2026)
- Completed Validation Form
The SPECS program reflects the continued efforts of the city government under Mayor Art Mercado to provide full support for the city’s education sector – from kindergarten to college and beyond.
According to local officials, there are currently over 4,328 active scholars who are benefitting from financial assistance under the SPECS program.
City officials also informed OpinYon Laguna that as part of efforts to fulfill Mercado’s standing order to expand the program, the local government has made it easier for students to enroll.
“Mas pinadali po natin ang proseso sapagkat dalawang requirements na lang ang kailangang ipasa: yung grades ng nakaraang semester, at registration form ng kasalukuyang semester,” they explained.
And it’s not just through SPECS that the city government has pledged to help San Pedrense students to reach their goals, help their families, and become productive and active members of society.
As reported by Mercado himself during his State of the City Address (SOCA) last December, the city has also helped 6,495 graduating students through the Tulong Pinansyal Para sa mga Mag-aaral na Magsisipagtapos.
The city government also provided temporary work to over 300 students through the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), not including 99 students placed under the Government Internship Program (GIT) where they were able to work inside local government departments.
