PRO-8 probes cops’ drinking spree in Eastern Samar

The Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas (PRO-8) has ordered an investigation into allegations that several police officers were caught drinking liquor while on duty inside a police facility in Eastern Samar, following the circulation of images on social media.

In a statement, PRO-8 said it has taken cognizance of the reported incident and has directed the concerned police unit to immediately look into the matter.


The regional police command stressed that it does not tolerate any form of misconduct among its personnel, particularly acts that violate established rules and professional standards of the Philippine National Police (PNP).


According to PRO-8, the investigation will focus on verifying the authenticity of the photos and determining the identities of the officers involved, as well as establishing whether the incident occurred during official duty hours and within a police premises.


Authorities will also assess possible violations of PNP regulations, including those related to discipline, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, and neglect of duty.


The police regional office emphasized that police officers are expected to maintain professionalism at all times, especially while in uniform or performing official duties.


Drinking alcoholic beverages while on duty is prohibited under PNP rules, as it undermines discipline, public trust, and the ability of officers to respond effectively to emergencies.


PRO-8 officials said that if the allegations are proven, appropriate administrative charges will be filed against those responsible.


Sanctions may range from suspension to dismissal from service, depending on the gravity of the offense and the results of the investigation.


Criminal liability may also be considered if evidence warrants such action.


The regional police command also reminded all police units in Eastern Visayas to strictly comply with existing policies and to ensure that discipline is consistently enforced within their ranks.


Commanders have been instructed to closely monitor their personnel and to take immediate action against any form of misconduct.
