Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has reiterated the need for the swift development or privatization of Iloilo International Airport, citing ongoing operational issues.
Treñas's call follows numerous complaints from passengers about uncomfortable conditions at the airport, including non-functioning air conditioning systems and out-of-service escalators.
"It's clear that the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) isn't capable of managing the airport. Privatization is necessary," stated Treñas.
Accountability
The city executive plans to meet with airport manager Luisa Palma to address the persistent problems.
Treñas also demands accountability from CAAP regarding the P190 million allocated by Senator Grace Poe for airport repairs last year.
As chair of the Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC) of the Regional Development Council in Western Visayas (RDC 6), Treñas advocates for airport development or privatization to enhance facilities and services, meeting the needs of increasing passenger numbers and improving overall travel experiences.
