The Visayas grid was placed on Yellow Alert status last Tuesday, April 16, as announce by yhe National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) .
According to the NGCP, the Yellow Alert status took effect from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-7:00 PM. During these times, the available capacity was 2,742MW, while the peak demand was 2,440MW.
Twelve plants in the area experienced forced outages, with five operating at derated capacities, resulting in a total unavailable capacity of 676.5MW on the grid.
NGCP explained that Yellow Alert indicates that the operating margin is insufficient to meet the contingency requirement of the transmission grid.
The public is informed that persistent electricity supply shortages could lead to power outages or blackouts in the region.
