Another era of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) is coming to a close this year.

Starting December 15, PNR will halt operations from its Calamba City station, as construction of the southern portion of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) goes into high gear.

"Simula sa darating na Disyembre 15, 2025, ititigil ang operasyon sa Philippine National Railways (PNR) Calamba Station upang bigyang-daan ang konstruksyon ng North-South Commuter Railway Extension (NSCR-Ex) Project," PNR management said in its Facebook page.

Starting December 16, train services between Calamba City to San Pablo City and Lucena City, Quezon will temporarily halt at the Halang Crossing Flagstop near the Calamba City Hall.

Meanwhile, the College station and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) flagstop will serve as alternate terminals for PNR's Southern Luzon services.

The Calamba City station was opened in 1909 and rehabilitated in 2014. It once served as the terminus of the old Calamba-Batangas spur line of the PNR, as well as the Metro South Commuter Line which was extended from Biñan City in 2014.

In 2023, PNR services between Metro Manila and Calamba City were suspended to give way for the ongoing construction of the NSCR Southern Line. Since then, the station has also served as the terminus of its South Main Line services to San Pablo City and Lucena City, Quezon.

There were also discussions of Calamba Station becoming the terminus of a revived inter-provincial service to Bicol Region. However, there is still no definite date of when train services between Southern Luzon and Bicol will finally resume.
