The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of General Rommel Francisco Marbil, is embarking on a significant reconfiguration of its offices aimed at bolstering police presence and effectiveness on the ground.
This initiative, as articulated during the activation of new police stations under the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), reflects a proactive approach to address community safety concerns and optimize resource deployment.
Marbil emphasized the importance of bringing more policemen directly into communities, aligning with the PNP’s objective to achieve a ratio of one police officer for every 500 residents, and a denser ratio of 1:50 in urban areas like Iloilo City.
This strategic realignment seeks to ensure that law enforcement personnel are more accessible and responsive to the needs of the populace.
Acknowledging the increasing demands on law enforcement, particularly in urban centers hosting conventions and large gatherings, Marbil highlighted the challenges of meeting these needs with current personnel levels.
Critical Role
Mayor Jerry Treñas’s request for additional police officers underscores the critical role of enhanced police presence in maintaining public order and safety during major events.
The activation of four new police stations — PS 7 at Tanza ICARE, PS 8 at Barangay Obrero, PS 9 at Uswag Youth Center in Jaro district, and PS 10 at ICARE Gaisano in Mandurriao district — marks a strategic expansion to accommodate growing community needs.
These stations, staffed with 147 policemen from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, will serve approximately 143,000 residents across 72 barangays, enhancing local security infrastructure and responsiveness.
In addition to operational enhancements, the inauguration of over PHP42.5 million worth of completed projects at the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) headquarters underscores the PNP’s commitment to modernizing facilities and improving operational capabilities.
Projects such as a multi-purpose building, road network improvements, and a mini park contribute not only to operational efficiency but also to morale and welfare enhancements for PNP personnel.
Furthermore, groundbreaking ceremonies for the PRO6 information technology command center and a flood control project highlight the PNP’s proactive stance in disaster management and infrastructure resilience. These initiatives will serve as critical hubs for coordinating disaster response efforts and enhancing overall situational awareness across the region.
