A reunion of all University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Arts and Letters alumni will happen not just on March 1, 2025 but from this month of October to the first quarter of next year.
In the media launch of the 60th founding year of Artlets held at the Sampaguita Room of The Manila Hotel, UST Philets and Artlets Alumni Association, Inc. president Henry Tenedero said that the diamond anniversary of Arts and Letters will also give tribute to the alumni of the defunct Faculty of Philosophy and Letters or Philets, the predecessor of Artlets.
Tenedero said the launch would mark the beginning of more continuous cooperation between the alumni of the two faculties despite coming from different generations.
“So, you can say that history defines the current and then it also projects the future. So, it’s good for you to know the current generation. But now…we don’t want to focus only on the current generation of Artlets because Artlets are the children of Philets, historically speaking,” said Tenedero as echoed by The Flame, The Journal of the Humanities of Arts and Letters.
One of the highlights of the celebration is a concert billed “Konsiyerto Para sa Kabataan” which will feature former students and alumni of Artlets such as Isay Alvarez, Piolo Pascual, Ali Sotto whose appearances were confirmed not only by Tenedero but entertainment journalist and publicist of the affair, Nestor G. Cuartero.
“I have invited them also here at the launch but they were not available but they promised to attend the grand reunion next year,” said Cuartero.
Some of the illustrious names who graduated from Artlets are National Artists for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera and Rolando Tinio, writers J. Neil Garcia, TV host Butch Francisco, broadcast news reporter Sandra Aguinaldo, entertainment writers Marinel Cruz, Emmie G. Velarde, Danny T. Vibas, Nelia Tan, Alice Vergara, Boy C. de Guia, the late Ethel Ramos, Gil E. Villasana, Hermie G. Francisco, and Mar de Guzman Cruz, among others.
