The Benefits Committee of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has recommended the inclusion of eyeglasses for children aged 5 to 6 in the health package.
According to Dr. Albert Domingo, spokesperson for the Department of Health (DOH), the number of Filipino children with eyesight issues is increasing, and many require urgent assistance.
Due to the high cost of obtaining eyeglasses, the PhilHealth Benefits Committee has proposed that they be included in the Health Benefits Package. This inclusion aims to alleviate the financial burden on families and ensure that children have access to the necessary vision correction tools for their development and education.
In addition to the coverage for eyeglasses, the committee also approved cataract surgeries for pediatric patients, further highlighting their commitment to addressing the health needs of children.
This recommendation reflects a proactive approach to child healthcare, emphasizing the importance of early intervention in vision problems to enhance children's overall well-being and quality of life. By integrating these services into the health package, PhilHealth aims to support low-income families and ensure that children have the resources they need for a brighter future.
