Eighty-two outstanding Filipino fictionists and poets received plaques of appreciation and other prizes at the Nick Joaquin Literary Awards (NJLA) of the Philippine Graphic and Philippine Graphic Reader, held Tuesday night, May 7, at the Samsung Theater of SM Aura in Taguig City.
In recognition of their brilliant contributions in the growth and development of Philippine literature, these writers were feted with accolades by winning in the NJLA.
According to poetess and short story writer, Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature winner and Editor of Philippine Graphic Reader Marra PL. Lanot and publisher of the Graphic, T. Anthony Cabangon, the Graphic Salute Awards is the jewel event of the company.
The award, which started in 2021, aims to encourage outstanding literary writers to recognize and enhance their talents in the art of writing for nation-building.
Among the recipients of the 2024 Graphic Salute Awards include Ramil Digal Gulle, Chato Garcellano, Ma. Ceres Doyo, Francisco Y. Arcellana, Nestor Cuartero, Pablo Tariman, and Yvette Tan.
It was a night of literary giants in the country.
Three National Artists - Ricky Lee (Film and Broadcast Arts), Gemino Abad (Literature) and Ben Cabrera, simply called BenCab - were around to share the artistic achievements of the NJLA awardees.
Celebrities spotted in the affair were Joel Lamangan, Kiri Dalena, Sol Juvida, Julie Luch Dalena, Alma Cruz-Miclat, Satur Ocampo, Beverly Wico Sy, Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo, John Jack Wigley, Seymour Sanchez, Jose F. Lacaba, Kris Lacaba, and Jose Dalisay, Jr., among others.
