As it pursues its firm commitment and efforts to combat human trafficking, the Philippines landed anew at the top place (Tier 1 rank) in the US Department of State’s Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report.
Tier 1 is the highest rank indicating that the Philippines has completed the minimum standards in eliminating human trafficking.
Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla said this (ranking) would spur the DOJ to continue pursuing efforts to eliminate all forms of human exploitation and trafficking and prosecute perpetrators.
Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco welcomed the report and further assured that the Immigration Bureau, as member of the Inter Agency Committee Against Trafficking (IACAT) will continue to be relentless in its campaign against human trafficking.
In a statement, he said: “the State declares an ‘all-out war’ against every single human trafficker out there preying on the innocent, we will show no-mercy in running after each one of you.”
He explained that Tier 1 ranking “highlights the efforts of the government, led by the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), to pursue prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnership initiatives against human trafficking.”
Remulla commended the IACAT, which would continue with its efforts to protect victims and run after the human traffickers.
“For nine straight years, the Philippine government has been relentless in its campaign to eradicate all forms of human trafficking. We have already gone this far and there is no stopping us in our ultimate goal of creating a world completely free from human trafficking,” he said.
Remulla said the DoJ recognizes the comprehensive measures implemented by various government agencies spearheaded by the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), to address human trafficking “through prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnership initiatives.”
The BI noted that in the TIP Report, the US Department of State highlighted how traffickers use technology to facilitate trafficking of their victims.
This prompted the BI to raise the alarm against syndicates recruiting professionals who end up working as love scammers in crypto scam hubs abroad.
“We are winning against trafficking. But the battle never stops. These human traffickers remain persistent in recruiting victims, but we will never stop doing our sworn duty to protect the Filipino people from this societal evil,” Tansingco told Business Mirror.
