Out of the 40 games nominated for LEVEL UP KL's SEA Game Awards 2021, two games are created in the Philippines or by Filipino game developers and artists.
LEVEL UP KL kicked off its events on September 13, 2021 with the announcement of 40 games chosen as the SEA Game Awards 2021 finalists, some proudly made by Pinoys.
Out of the 40 games nominated, two games are created in the Philippines or by Filipino game developers and artists.
First up is Ranida Games’ Vita Fighters, a one-on-one mobile fighting game by AngryDevs, which was first launched on Google Play last November 2020.
Rather than building up on complicated controller combinations and players helplessly button smashing, the game offers simplified touch controls without compromising its fast-paced action.
"I really wanted to create a game where players can just look at the characters and somehow build an idea of how the characters play, where they will still be able to do what they can do in other fighting games albeit on a simple mobile platform,” said AngryDevs.
The second Filipino game in the finalists is CMD Studios’ Fallen Tear: The Ascension, a hand-crafted 2D fantasy open world Metroidvania.
Currently only available on demo, the game has been played by several streamers and game review YouTubers with very high hopes for the full version coming soon.
“Embark on a journey with the mysterious youth "Hira" as he goes on a quest to unlock the secrets of a dangerous, fantasy world in order to save his loved ones,” reads the game description.
Some of the games in the 40 finalists include The Signal State by Reckoner Industries, Coffee Talk by Toge Productions and When the Past Was Around by Mojiken Studio.
All 40 finalists are in the running for one of the ten categories in the SEA Game Awards during the MY Digital Creativity Festival in November.
The 10 categories are as follows: Best Audio, Best Visual, Best Technology, Best Game Design, Best Innovation, Best Storytelling, Best Student Game, Grand Jury Award, Rising Star Award, and Audience Choice Award
