The Philippines, with its stunning beaches, lush hinterlands, and dynamic cityscapes, is emerging as a prime location for international films, particularly Hollywood productions, according to Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco.
Speaking with U.S. film executives and Filipino-American actors in California, Frasco highlighted the country’s diverse landscapes, from the pristine beaches of Boracay, Palawan, and Cebu to the historic walls of Intramuros and the modern cityscapes of Manila and Cebu.
Beyond scenic locations, the Philippines offers a wealth of creative talent, a proficient English-speaking workforce, and a cost-effective filmmaking ecosystem, further boosted by government incentives under the CREATE More Law (Republic Act No. 12066).
Foreign productions collaborating with local counterparts can enjoy tax holidays, lower corporate income tax, and exemptions on importation taxes for filming-related equipment.
Additionally, Hollywood-based film equipment provider Birns & Sawyer Inc. is investing $50 million in the Philippines to build state-of-the-art soundstages, with an initial $15-17 million facility planned for New Clark City.
The company also intends to support local filmmakers through cinematography workshops, co-production grants, and collaboration with universities to train industry-ready graduates.
Trade Secretary Cristina Roque emphasized that such investments will create jobs, expand the country’s creative economy, and position the Philippines as a key player in global film production.
First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos echoed this sentiment, encouraging Hollywood executives to explore the Philippines as a filming destination, noting its breathtaking beauty and warm hospitality.
