The National Dairy Authority (NDA) has confirmed that the Philippines’ aim of achieving an 80-million-liter milk production target by 2028 is progressing steadily, with a four-percent increase recorded in 2023.
According to Gavino Alfredo Benitez, NDA’s Officer-In-Charge Administrator, the country’s total milk production in 2023 reached 22.87 million liters, compared to 21.93 million liters in 2022.
Benitez highlighted that 78 percent of this production came from cattle, while 12 percent came from goats, indicating the primary focus of support by the NDA.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the dairy animal herd saw a notable growth of 12 percent, rising from 67,967 in 2022 to 75,798 in 2023.
To commemorate World Milk Day, which falls on June 1 as established by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization since 2001, the NDA plans to host a dairy fair on May 31.
This fair will feature products from various assisted cooperatives located in both northern and southern Luzon.
Participating cooperatives in the dairy fair include DVF Dairy Farm, Catmon Multi-Purpose Cooperative, R.O. Valerio Dairy Farm, Batangas Dairy Cooperative, Aces Philproducers Corp., and Arrsaq Dairy Cooperative.
