With the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) now less than a week away, political parties and alliances are now finalizing their slates for the 2025 midterm elections.
The wait may soon be over for supporters of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., as his administration is reportedly finalizing its senatorial lineup with a new party, “Alyansa ng Bagong Pilipinas,” set to be launched soon.
Sources confirmed that the administration’s “Magic 12” senatorial candidates are almost complete, with only two slots still being finalized - those of Former Senator Panfilo Lacson and Incumbent Sen. Imee Marcos.
Lacson’s potential inclusion is reportedly backed by his close ally, Former Senate President Tito Sotto III.
Meanwhile, two of Sotto’s colleagues from the Nationalist People’s Coalition - reelectionist Sen. Lito Lapid and Makati Mayor Abby Binay - will also be running under the new party.
Among other notable candidates, Rep. Erwin Tulfo of the ACT-CIS party-list and reelectionist Sen. Bong Revilla Jr. of Lakas-CMD are confirmed to be part of the slate.
The Alyansa ng Bagong Pilipinas is expected to include two candidates from the Villar-led Nacionalista Party (NP): House Deputy Speaker Camille Villar and reelectionist Sen. Pia Cayetano.
The remaining candidates will represent the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), the party under which President Marcos ran in 2022.
These include reelectionist Sen. Francis Tolentino, former Senator Manny Pacquiao, and Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos.
